The New Mexico Caregivers Coalition will visit Carlsbad/Artesia to hear from family and professional caregivers about issues in the workplace, resources needed and solutions caregivers have. Come tell us what's important to you!

 We need to hear from caregivers about Education, Training and Credentialing; JOBS for Caregivers; Respect and Recognition in the Workplace; Wages and Benefits for Caregivers.

All are welcome! Caregivers, caregiver-advocates, agency staff, family members and care recipients are especially urged to attend. Brokers and HealthCare Guides have been invited to help people make appointments for health insurance and describe Federal premium subsidies available to caregivers who qualify.

New Mexico State Senators Gay Kernan and Carroll Leavell and Representatives Bill Gray, David Gallegos and Cathrynn Brown of Carlsbad and Artesia areas have been invited.

National Alliance for Caregiving is hiring for a Director of Development, Operations and Programs. Candidates should demonstrate: a track record of success in developing and executing annual fundraising campaigns; a history of generating corporate and stakeholder support (both financial and through strategic partnerships); success with implementing non-profit programs; and an understanding of how to manage the operations of a small non-profit office and staff. NMDCC will deliver "Customized Training for Caregivers" to wage-earning and family caregivers of Santa Clara Pueblo on March 14-15. The course is for current and potential caregivers. Course content includes skills every caregiver should know:

  • Communication Skills/Dealing with Difficult Clients
  • Ethical/Legal Considerations in Direct Care
  • Principles of Person-Centered Planning
  • Activities of Daily Living
  • Infection Control and Sterile Procedure
  • Transfer and Mobility
  • Managing Medications
  • Diet and Nutrition
  • Complications of Heart Attack, Stroke, COPD
  • Interviewing Skills that Get You the Job

Training prepares graduates to sit for and earn the nationally-recognized Direct Care Alliance Personal Care and Support Credential. Thank you Norman Martinez, a graduate of the Albuquerque-based training, for hosting the Santa Clara Pueblo workshop.
