HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR CAREGIVERS

New Mexico Direct Caregivers Coalition (NMDCC) will receive Federal funding for its “Health and Safety for Caregivers” training in 2015-2016. We will continue to offer the three core training modules delivered last year:

  1. Prevention of Bloodborne Pathogens
  2. Safe Transfer and Mobility of Clients
  3. Your Workplace Responsibilities as a Caregiver

This year, we are also adding to these three modules:

  1. Prevention of Workplace Violence
  2. Pandemic Flu Preparedness #1
  3. Pandemic Flu Preparedness #2
  4. Using Personal Protective Equipment
  5. Hazard Communications Standard
  6. Walking and Working Surfaces
  7. Emergency Exits

Click here for a syllabus and more complete description of each module so you can pick and choose from these modules.

Delivery (training time) will be in 4-hour blocks of time. NMDCC will work with your agency and your staff needs in determining training dates and times. All trainings that we do must include Workplace Responsibilities as a Caregiver module.

We are proud of our first successful year and the work that employers and caregivers did to make it 2014-2015 such a success. We've  learned so much from you and look forward to these additional offerings in 2015-2016!

CUSTOMIZED TRAINING FOR CAREGIVERS

This year, NMDCC is adding the option for agencies to choose from the  “Customized Training for Caregivers” modules (Diet and Nutrition, Communication Skills, Person-Centered Planning and Medication Management) in addition to the selected modules from “Health and Safety for Caregivers.” NMDCC can administer a nationally-recognized “Personal Care and Support” Credential to your staff for an additional $110 per person.

DIRECT CARE WORKERS' COOPERATIVE

As a caregiver or community health worker, have you ever thought about starting your own business? Perhaps in partnership with other caregivers? Thanks to funding from the Cooperative Development Foundation, NMDCC is supporting Sandoval County caregivers and community health workers seeking to start a cooperatively-owned home care business. Call Dana Howarth at 505-269-6469 or write to dana@nmdcc.org to get involved.
